Martina Navratilova has strongly condemned Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after FIFA suspended him for his contentious actions during the Women’s World Cup.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion expressed her feelings on social media about holding Rubiales accountable for his conduct. FIFA’s recent decision to punish Luis Rubiales for 90 days in the aftermath of an incident involving Spanish footballer Jennifer Hermoso has aroused a range of emotions. Navratilova joined the chorus of criticism in praising FIFA’s handling of the situation.

Good,” Navratilova stated plainly on Twitter, welcoming FIFA’s stance against Rubiales. The punishment comes in the aftermath of his non-consensual kissing of footballer Hermoso. Rubiales was also chastised for an indecent victory gesture that entailed clutching his crotch in front of Spain’s Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old daughter Sofia.

Navratilova responded to one of her followers who brought up the issue of cultural differences. They implied that the episode could be interpreted as a collision between Northern European prudence and Southern European sympathies. In her reaction, Navratilova categorically denied the existence of cultural differences, claiming that the issue at hand was one of “male toxic entitlement.”

Nothing kissy kissy about this. It’s male toxic entitlement on full display,” Navratilova said. She further went on to highlight not only the inappropriate kiss and crotch grab but also the offensive act of carrying another player.

Navratilova remained steadfast in her opposition to the WTA Finals being held in Saudi Arabia. Her recent comments on the subject have sparked controversy and prompted criticism, highlighting the complexities of conducting sporting events in politically charged environments.

Navratilova made the comments during an interview with sports journalist Jon Wertheim, in which she stated her firm opposition to competing in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia if she were still an active tennis player.

I wouldn’t be playing the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia,” Navratilova told Wertheim, stating her stance on the matter.

However, Navratilova’s remarks have not been without criticism. The tennis legend then revealed on social media that she had received backlash for her position. The venue of the WTA Finals is still unknown, while Saudi Arabia has emerged as a reported contender.
