Martina Navratilova has expressed her disappointment on actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig not getting nominated for the 96th Academy Awards for their movie ‘Barbie’, which was a global blockbuster hit, through a tweet on social media. Both Greta and Margot have received two Oscar nominations each in their respective careers so far. However, ‘Barbie’ was by far the most successful movie in both their careers.

Barbie got a total of eight nominations in the 2024 Oscars, including best picture, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best adapted screenplay, original song (two songs), best costume design, and best product design. The fact that the director and main actress of the movie did not become a part of this list of nominations has confused and angered fans alike.

Navratilova is also a part of this angry set of fans. She wrote, ‘What else is new?’ on the topic on Twitter (now known as X) and pointed out the irony of this incident. The movie ‘Barbie’ breaks the social stereotype and talks about how women are treated in the real world and how men often have it easy.

The fact that Ryan Gosling, who played the role of Ken in the movie, got nominated for an Oscar and Margot Robbie, who played the role of Barbie, didn’t, sums up the entire story of the movie.

“No Oscar nomination for Greta Gerwig. No Oscar nomination for Margot Robbie. Ryan Gosling gets an Oscar nomination. This is actually the whole plot of “Barbie”,” a particular fan tweeted. It was this tweet to which Martina Navratilova responded.

Barbie was the highest-grossing movie worldwide in 2023

Barbie earned a total of $1,438,699,127 (1.4 billion dollars) at the box office and became the highest-earning movie of 2023. Barbie was released alongside Christopher Nolan’s Magnum opus ‘Oppenheimer’ that earned $955 million at the box office.

The fact that Barbie not only survived the competition but outshined the movie shows how well received it was among the masses. It has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 6.9/10 on IMDb

Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan and Emma Stone are the five actresses who have been nominated for the best actress award at the 2024 Oscars. Margot Robbie’s performance was praised by everyone after the movie was released. Thus, her not being in the list of nominated actresses came as a bit of a surprise.
