Martina Navratilova, the 67-year-old tennis player, has been involved in the world of sports recently. Many controversies have risen to the surface as the former player does not hesitate to speak her mind. In recent times, she has spoken about the unfairness in women’s sports as transgender men are winning.
In a powerlifting competition, the trans-identifying male, Anne Andres, is Alberta, Canada’s women’s powerlifting record holder, on the bench. The powerlifting champion recognizes no difference in upper-body strength between males and females.
To this, Navratilova commented, “He’s so smug, isn’t he?”. To this end, the fans are going against the 67-year-old and are supporting transgender men. The fan also brought out Michael Phelps by saying that there is no difference between them.
Michael Phelps is considered one of the best swimmers in the world and holds the record for the most Olympic gold medals. This historic record by the swimmer was put under the radar as the fans called him out.
Oh, the old Michael Phelps defense. That was a male competing against other males.Martina Navratilova wrote via X
Martina Navratilova is ridiculed for the comments made by the powerlifter
Anne Andres, Canada’s powerlifting record holder, has received some criticism from other female athletes that she has an unfair advantage over her competitors during the competition because she is a transgender male. The lifter then posted a tearful video on the internet, expressing her concerns and views. The record holder said:
Let me just ask one simple and open question to those who are deciding to leave me to my own fate through their inaction. If this other lifter was, say, going after an African-American individual and calling them the n-word, which is essentially equivalent to calling a trans woman a man and referring to them as him.
This was considered a ridiculous comparison by Martina, who commented the same. There is currently no better solution for these problems, but the former Wimbledon champion suggests that there should be another separate league for transgender women to participate in rather than compete in women’s sports and win there.
She is speaking on behalf of other female athletes as well. Due to the inclusion of transgender men in the women’s league, the other athletes are withdrawing out of unfairness.
