Martina Navratilova’s dislike for the Republicans was once again on display as the former American tennis ace took a dig at the opposition party for electing an extremist in Mike Johnson as the new House of Representatives speaker. This comes after Johnson who has been dubbed as Donald Trump’s ‘perfect speaker’ was elevated to the post of speaker after three weeks of chaos. 

It is worth mentioning that Johnson got 220 to 209 votes in his favor and occupied the seat that had been vacant since the ousting of Kevin McCarthy. As Johnson comes in as the least experienced House Speaker in decades, Democrats are not happy about it. Also, Johnson’s association with Trump and his role in overturning the 2020 election results have attracted criticism for the new House Speaker.

The criticism had started mounting right from the time when Johnson’s name was floated for the role. Democrats Mike Levin openly asked citizens for their support and criticized Johnson. He highlighted a few facts about Johnson that lie in the media. However, this did not sit with one of the users on X as they asked who they have to fulfill the speaker’s role.

Martina Navratilova answers the query 

While Mike Levin did not respond to this comment under his post, Martina Navratilova came forward to revert back. The former world no.1 tennis player took a jibe at the Republicans saying they forgot they are in the majority.

I think it’s the republicans who forgot they are in the majority- it’s not the Democrats job to elect their majority speaker.
Martina Navratilova wrote on X. 

It is worth mentioning that Mike Johnson was asked about his alleged involvement in the 2020 election results saga but the newly-elected House Speaker dodged the question while other Republicans booed the media for asking it.
