Martina Navratilova recently defended herself and British author J.K Rowling, as they both are facing severe criticism from the transgender community and their supporters. The former World No. 1 player was seen opposing the USTA’s (United States Tennis Association) policy regarding the inclusion of trans women in sports. She had tweeted about the policy and called it “unfair” and “not right”.
Navratilova has been very vocal about her opinions in the media. She has always maintained an opposing stance towards the participation of transgender people in sports. J.K. Rowling has also been equally vocal about her views on trans women. She has indicated on many occasions that she does not believe that trans women should be classified as women. The best-selling author believes that sex is binary in nature.
A tweet addressing both of them explained that they are women who introduce themselves by gently questioning the most trifling traditional thinking about the trans issue. However, when they learn more about the trans movement, they grow more resistant. Another person chimed in with the opinion that they become intransigent because they were against trans people in the first place.
The 18-time grand slam champion replied to the second tweet by stating that she is not anti-trans but pro-women in sex-based places that include sports and locker rooms.
Martina Navratilova says there is now a Big Four in women’s tennis
Navratilova believes there is now a Big Four in women’s tennis, with Coco Gauff joining Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina. There are some who had dubbed Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Rybakina the women’s tennis equivalent of the Big Three earlier this year.
Gauff fell to Sabalenka in the opening set of the women’s US Open final. The 19-year-old American won the second set and then dominated the third, ultimately winning 2-6 6-3 6-2.
Navratilova, a record 18-time Grand Slam champion, believes Gauff has joined that club with her US Open victory. She said “She will win double-figure majors if she stays fit. We were talking about the big three. Now it’s the big four.“
