Former World No. 1 Martina Navratilova has been one of the most active ex-players on social media. The 18-time singles Grand Slam title winner often speaks out on various issues globally.
This often leads to criticism towards her but she has never backed down. She continues to use her popularity to highlight the challenges of the society.
Recently, a social media outrage has been occurring against a 20-year-old man. He was found to have deliberately physically assaulted an elderly 70-year-old woman identified as Judith Hobson. As per reports, she was punched in her head thrice which resulted in a concussion for her.
The incident happened in New Zealand in April 2023 during the heated Posie Parker counter-protest in Auckland. The assault had been filmed on camera and despite that, the man has been let off without a conviction. Furthermore, his name has also been suppressed permanently.
Amid this, a tweet showing plain misogyny has come to light. The X (formerly Twitter) user claimed that the woman should have shown empathy to the youngster. He claimed she had lost all her ‘maternal instincts’ by not doing so. This infuriated many including Navratilova who put out two tweets.
Controversial verdict raises more eyes as the assailant claimed to be suffering from “ADHD and autism”
The case took nearly a year to come to a final verdict. Much to the disappointment of Hobson, no serious charges were levied on the youngster as he was discharged without a conviction. The police opposed it but the court saw things otherwise.
The man whose identity has been concealed hired lawyer Emma Priest. Priest revealed the youngster suffered from ADHD and autism. She claimed he underwent community service, counseling, and rehabilitation while admitting to a charge of common assault.
The final verdict was eventually in his favor. He was ordered to pay $1000 as reparation to the Hobson.
You’re a lying little b******.Said Hobson to the man after the court’s verdict as per NZ Herald.
Hobson’s plea was overlooked despite her difficulties on both physical and mental levels after the assault. She requested his identity be not hidden but the court ruled in the opposite direction.
