Former World No 1 Martina Navratilova is one of the greatest players to pick up the racquet. Apart from her opinions on the varied issues in the sport, she has actively participated in various political debates and been upfront with her views. Former US President Donald Trump has always faced the wrath for her brutal and harsh fuss. This time, she indirectly pointed out Trump while bashing Arizona Governor Kari Lake’s actions.
She is one of the inspirational players who has managed to create her own legacy with her numerous accolades and achievements. She has influenced millions throughout her career which spanned over four different decades. She does not ever mince her words standing up for a cause she firmly believes in. The former US Open champion has always stood in support of gender equality and rights for the LGBTQ community.
The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion disapproved of Lake’s stance for former Senator John McCain while denying to agree with his political ideologies. She further admitted that she would have been glad to thank him for his bravery but that isn’t the case here. She went on to call Lake to be a pompous person just like the orange guy which indirectly hinted at the 45th US President.
Navratilova took to her social media account on Twitter to express her opinions. Her tweet was like “This woman has absolutely no shame. I didn’t agree with Senator McCain’s politics at all but would have gladly shaken his hand and thanked him for his incredible bravery. Lake is not a patriot at all-just a wannabe blowhard sycophant for the orange guy,“
Martina Navratilova revoked her Czech citizenship with the former 43rd US President being the reason
This is not the first time that Martina Navratilova has bashed a former President apart from Trump. She has never denied her sexual orientation nor denied the fact that she had escaped home and as a result was stripped of her Czech citizenship at the age of 18 in 1975. She stayed in an asylum without citizenship for six years before eventually becoming a US citizen in 1981.
However, 27 years later, there was a huge relief as the 3-time Australian Open champion had become a Czech citizen once again She blamed former US President George W Bush as the reason to revoke her Czech citizenship and become a dual citizen. She accused him of showing differential behavior for gay and lesbian individuals. On the other hand, Martina Navratilova admitted that life for lesbians in the US is much more difficult and tough as compared to those staying in Europe.
