The ongoing Israel-Palestine war has shaken the world. Hundreds of people have died, and many more displaced. After Hamas attacked Israel on the 7th of October, Israel has been dropping bombs on Gaza and allegedly stripping the region of its basic amenities. Former player Martina Navratilova, who is also an activist, has been constantly tweeting and speaking out her opinions of the war.
Just a few days back, Israel ordered Palestinians to evacuate Gaza as soon as possible, hinting at a possible bombarding. The United Nations has been trying to dilute the matter with the help of the neighboring countries, but it has been of no use.
One X user reported the news to regarding Israel’s possibility of a mass killing, to which Navratilova replied, “Where are these people [Palestinians] supposed to go? Swimming???“
Some of the users replied to Navratilova that the Palestinians can take shelter in the south Gaza. To which the Wimbledon player lashed at them saying, “Apparently a couple of convoys heading south were attacked… I think easier said than done.”
Martina, although conservative in nature over certain aspects of politics, has shown sympathy for both sides since the war began.
Martina Navratilova shocked over people being beheaded in Kfar Aza
For the past few days, a news has been circulating over the social media about people, especially Israeli babies being beheaded by the Hamas militant group. Although some people call the news fake and call it a propaganda strategy by the Israelis, it has turned the internet upside down.
But ever since the news broke out, many people have very strong reaction. One of them being Navratilova. She stated her strong criticism of the horrible conduct and called it “beyond despicable” and “evil” in response to the upsetting news of it.
“Omg…beyond despicable- just evil, EVIL…” Navratilova posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The tennis world has also been equally affected, just like the rest of the war. Due to the war, ATP will not be able to hold the Tel Aviv Open in Israel because of hostilities and damage. Some replacement has to be announced by the ATP for the event.
