Martina Navratilova has launched a fresh attack on the Republican party and Donald Trump as the former American tennis ace has lashed out at ‘corrupt’ Justice Clarence Thomas who is alleged to have taken money from the Republicans. Navratilova also demanded Thomas’ resignation.
As reports emerged that Clarence Thomas took money from the Republican party to stay in his position as the Supreme Court judge, criticism surrounded the Republican party as well as Thomas. Although Clarence Thomas has refuted the claims, netizens seem to take little notice and continue to thrash the judge for his corrupt nature.
Martina Navratilova also joined the bandwagon and took aim at Thomas demanding his resignation. She then claimed that the Supreme Court judge would not give up his position although he should.
Yup, Thomas is totally corrupt and should resign. But he won’t...Martina Navratilova posted on X criticizing Clarence Thomas.
Why is Justice Clarence Thomas facing criticism?
Justice Clarence Thomas who was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991 as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States has been accused of taking undeclared gifts from Republicans over the years.
According to a report in ProPublica, Clarence Thomas, frustrated with his finances, mentioned about resigning from his position to a Republican lawmaker which led to favors from some ultra-rich men in the country. He kept receiving gifts over the years.
Some defrayed living expenses large and small — private school tuition, vehicle batteries, and tires. Other gifts from a coterie of ultrarich men supplemented his lifestyle, such as free international vacations on the private jet and superyacht of Dallas real estate billionaire Harlan Crow. However, how Thomas returned the favor is not mentioned.
Nevertheless, as the report emerged, Thomas has been facing severe criticism from all corners. He has also been asked to recuse himself from the case pending before the Supreme Court involving whether former President Donald Trump is absolutely immune from federal prosecution for alleged crimes committed while in office.
