Martina Navratilova has lashed out at Ron DeSantis for being a “racist to the core” as the Florida Governor has expressed support for educational policies that promote slavery. As DeSantis has defended Florida’s new educational benchmarks that teach kids about the “personal benefits” of slavery, Navratilova has hit out at him.

As a user highlighted how DeSantis’ stance has exposed him to the public, Navratilova agreed. “Ron DeSantis doubles down in defense of Florida’s new educational benchmarks that teach kids about the so-called “personal benefits” of slavery. His blatant racism and whitewashing of history EXPOSED in front of the whole country,” wrote the user.

To this, Navratilova shared two tweets wherein she criticized the Florida Governor. “Racist to his core, our Governor!!!” commented Novaratilova on the above post. She then reshared the post while adding her remarks. “Yup. That’s our Governor alright @GovRonDeSantis,” she wrote.

How is Florida’s education curriculum promoting racism which has left Martina Navratilova angry

Florida’s new curriculum which has been taught in the public schools of the state for almost three months now teaches students that some Black people benefited from slavery because it taught them useful skills. The Florida State Board of Education’s new standards include controversial language about how “slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit”.

The curriculum also talks about how Black people were also perpetrators of violence during race massacres. Quite obviously, this received a lot of flak from all corners. The Florida Education Association, a statewide teachers’ union representing about 150,000 teachers, called the new standards “a disservice to Florida’s students and are a big step backward for a state that has required teaching African American history since 1994.”

But despite all this, Ron DeSantis has defended the move saying people are misinterpreting just one line. “At the end of the day, you got to choose: Are you going to side with Kamala Harris and liberal media outlets or are you going to side with the state of Florida?” DeSantis told reporters as he campaigned in Iowa back in July (via AP News). This certainly has not sat well with Navratilova who has criticized the Florida Governor.
