Martina Navratilova took a shot at Republican Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for not holding Donald Trump responsible and instead blaming Ronna McDaniel for the party’s losses in the elections. Navratilova claimed that he found blaming a woman easier than taking Trump’s name. She also called Ramaswamy a part of the Good Ole Boys’ network. 

Notably,  Vivek Ramaswamy was asked about his decision to blame Ronna McDaniel for the party’s losses in the 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023 elections while reminding him that Trump has been the leader of the party all these years. The Republican stayed firm on his comment saying it would be wrong to put the blame for everything on one person- Donald Trump.

As the video clip of this short exchange went viral on social media, Martina Navratilova took a moment to call out Ramaswamy. She did not like the fact that while Trump gets all the accolades, a woman is being singled out for the poor performance of the party.

Why did Vivek Ramaswamy take aim at his own party member?

Vivek Ramaswamy made the comments about Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel during the third presidential debate. He claimed that the Republican party lost all its elections ever since Ronna took over the job and asked her to resign. Vivek claimed that he has no personal grudges and just wants the best for the party.

Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022, [the] red wave that never came. We got trounced last night in 2023. We have to have accountability in our party. For that matter, Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you want to look the GOP voters in the eye and tell them you resign, I will yield my time to you.

It was a rather bizarre move from Ramaswamy to blame someone from their own party. However, the new face of the party did not have any problems with what he said. Nevertheless, Ronna had a savage response ready as she claimed Vivek did it for the headlines. She further denied to comment saying she is not running for anything and hence is focused on defeating the Democrats.

Notably, McDaniel was picked by former President Donald Trump soon after his 2016 White House victory to steer the national party committee. She was re-elected in 2019, 2021, and again in January, when she announced that this would be her final two-year term leading the RNC.
