Former soccer player O.J. Simpson is under fire for the comments he made recently, which marked the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Simpson appeared on a podcast to discuss the fallout of the first week of the NFL. Then, the 76-year-old went on to add in a remark in light of the terrorist attacks 22 years ago. Several social media users, including retired tennis star Martina Navratilova, jumped in to shut him down.
On Monday, Simpson made an appearance on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast. While discussing the fallout for Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets after he suffered an injury in the team’s season opener match on the night of September 11, the 76-year-old made a disturbing joke involving the attacks.
“Unfortunately, 9/11 was just a bad day for New York,” Simpson said. Though his comments were met with laughter from the other two hosts, netizens were left raging at the American.
Users online cited Simpson’s comments on the terror attacks as tone-deaf and insensitive. 18-time Grand Slam singles winner Martina Navratilova reposted a post by another user who called out the former NFL player’s comment as being “classless” and “tone-deaf”. They also called him out for being accused of murdering “two innocent people“.
Navratilova reposted the post, giving her opinion on the matter. The former World No. 1 stated that “OJ should just stay out of sight” as the former footballer was being dragged on social media for his callous comments.

Marina Navratilova calls out Aaron Rodgers
Not only did Marina Navratilova shut O.J. Simpson down for his compassionless remarks on the occasion of 9/11, she also targeted the NFL star, Aaron Rodgers, over his use of an anti-parasitic drug called Ivermectin over vaccination for COVID-19. Thrashing his debut dreams, unfortunately, Rodgers ended up tearing his Achilles tendon four minutes into the match on Monday.
Navratilova had questioned the legitimacy of the NFL star’s claims and whether taking the drug as an alternative to the COVID-19 vaccines could create a problem later on. She had also tweeted something about the player, which was taken down after the information about his injury came out. “Just saw Rodgers blow up his Achilles, so taking my tweet down. Though I still think he is irresponsible and delusional for promoting Ivermectin.” she posted.
The drug Ivermectin is mostly used to treat parasitic infections in animals. Some players have, however, advocated for the drug’s use as an alternative to the COVID-19 vaccine. This has stirred up arguments among many sports fans.
