Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has always been openly against the inclusion of transgender women in women’s sports and she has just made another claim supporting that argument on her X (formerly called Twitter) account. She replied to a tweet supporting the inclusion of trans women in NCAA Division I, which led to a big Twitter thread of debating between the two sides, following which Navratilova finally shut the supporter with a reply of her own.
When the USTA (United States Tennis Association) released its transgender inclusion policy, Martina Navratilova came up with some strong words. She had said that women’s tennis is not a sport for failed men’s players and that it is highly unfair for females. In the Twitter (or X) battle, Navratilova maintained a similar tone.
The tweet that she replied to celebrated June Eastwood becoming the first openly MTF transgender athlete to compete in NCAA Division I cross-country, competing for the University of Montana women’s team. To this, Navratilova replied, “It was wrong then, is still wrong now and always will be wrong.”
To this end, the author of the tweet replied that a person’s capability in sports has no relation to their assigned or true gender, citing the example of Billie Jean King defeating Bobby Riggs. Navratilova then pointed out that Riggs was 55 when the battle of the sexes was played and there was a 26-year age gap between the two players.
She further strengthened her stand with the statement: “If Simone Biles were to compete against men, she would not get on the podium. Please stop arguing with me about athletic ability and the fact there is no difference between genders. check track and field records- 15 year old boys would hold almost all of women’s world records.”
Martina Navratilova’s stand against transgender inclusion in women’s sports
18-time singles Grand Slam winner Martina Navratilova has always been openly against the inclusion of transgender people in women’s sports simply because she feels it is not fair. She announced that she was a lesbian, and she fought for the rights of lesbian, gay, and even transgender people. But the inclusion of transgender people in women’s sports is where she draws the line because as per her that is not fair for the females.
Martina Navratilova has always stated that there is a massive difference between men and women, and this transgender inclusion policy will lead to failed men’s players competing in the women’s category, which will give them a massively unfair advantage.
