Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has taken to Twitter to criticize House Republicans for their latest legislation that aims to prevent local district attorneys from pursuing charges against former presidents. In a tweet, Navratilova said, “The lengths these asswipes will go to protect this disgraced cult leader is quite astonishing.”

The proposed bill, which is largely symbolic, is seen as another show of support for former President Donald Trump, who is facing the possibility of criminal charges in Georgia and was arraigned in Manhattan last week for allegedly violating state law with false business records. Republicans have denounced the charges as politically motivated and have scheduled a hearing to accuse Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of failing to prosecute real crimes.

The district attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, is nearing the completion of an investigation related to Trump’s efforts to convince state officials to “find” enough votes to undo his loss there in the presidential election. Trump was also indicted in New York last month for falsifying business records related to hush money paid in 2016 to a former adult film star.

Navratilova, the renowned tennis player, expressed her strong disapproval of Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith’s endorsement of former President Donald Trump’s potential presidential campaign in 2024. Hyde-Smith’s announcement coincided with Trump’s arraignment in New York for allegations of making hush money payments to a former adult film star. While endorsing Trump, Hyde-Smith did not mention his attempts to overturn his loss in the 2020 election and the Capitol riot that occurred on January 6, 2021.

In her tweet, Navratilova expressed her disapproval of Hyde-Smith’s statement, which claimed that the charges against Trump were politically motivated and lacked justice. Navratilova also criticized Hyde-Smith for repeating false claims about Bragg and Soros, referring to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who indicted Trump, and billionaire philanthropist George Soros, who Republicans have accused of funding left-wing political campaigns.

Navratilova’s tweet is indicative of a trend among public figures and celebrities who are increasingly leveraging social media to voice their political opinions and condemn injustices. Navratilova, who is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and has been involved in various social and political causes, used her tweet to draw attention to the need for equality and to fight against discrimination. The tweet is a clear example of how celebrities are utilizing their influence to promote social change and raise awareness about critical issues.
