Martina Navratilova tears into Dallas Mayor for sudden switch in allegiance
Martina Navratilova was not impressed with Eric Johnson’s sudden change in allegiance and lashed out at him publicly. The Dallas Mayor announced the news on Friday morning, stating that he would leave office in 2027 as a Republican.

“Today I am changing my party affiliation. Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican,” announced Eric Johnson.
Eric Johnson served as a Democrat for nine years before being elected as a Mayor in 2019. The Mayor’s role is non-partisan. However, he chose to serve as a Republican until his tenure ends in 2027. Martina Navratilova believed that the current laws allowed the politicians to get away with making switches to other political parties, which deceives the voters. Hence, many citizens have called for the laws to be amended, which prohibits politicians from changing parties when they are in office.
