Coco Gauff is one of the brightest talents on the female tennis circuit. Both media and legends have high hopes for her. She has also proved her caliber in both the WTA and Grand Slam tournaments. However, she is yet to win a Grand Slam title.

The World No.6 had started her season well by winning the ASB Classic tournament in Auckland, New Zealand. However, she could not repeat her success at the Australian Open 2023. She was knocked out in the fourth round. It was a big disappointment for her fans.

Former World No.4 Mary Joe Fernandez believes that Coco Gauff is not ready to win a Grand Slam. True, she reached the final of the French Open 2022, but she is yet to improve her game to the level of others.

“With Coco, I also think she’s a work in progress. She’s 18, there’s a lot still to work on in her game. But I also think that she’s going in the right direction. The win she had in Auckland was some of the best tennis I’ve seen from her. She’s working really hard on the forehand, she’s working really hard on the serve,” she said optimistically.

Despite not being able to progress into the advanced stages of the Australian Open 2023, former American tennis player believes that Gauff performed well and make some corrections in her game which can help her especially with the forehand.

“I felt that the serve in Australia was way better, very few double faults…I felt like that’s something she’s corrected and she’s getting the margins, getting the spin,” she continued.

The Former World No.1 Tracy Austin differs in her opinions from Mary Joe Fernandez. She thinks that Coco Gauff is ready to win her maiden Grand Slam title. She too congratulated the current World No.6 for making some significant changes to her game.

“If Coco was a stock, I’m gonna buy. Coco’s gonna win her first Major pretty soon. The most important thing we need to remember is she’s only 18. We’ve seen such great improvement in her game,”  she said.

After her campaign in the Australian Open, Coco Gauff participated in the Qatar Open. She was knocked out in the quarter-final by Veronika Kudermetova. However, she with Jessica Pegula won the doubles event here. She is currently participating in the Dubai Open both in the singles and doubles events.
