Novak Djokovic caused a huge scare at the recently concluded Nitto ATP Finals, where he suffered from tremors in his round-robin stage fixture against Daniil Medvedev. The Serbian played a grueling encounter against Daniil Medvedev, which went down the wire. Novak Djokovic was visibly struggling during the match, with his hands shaking, and a towel wrapped around his face to hide the agony he found himself in.

Former Swedish tennis legend, Mats Wilander opined on the unfortunate situation at the Nitto ATP Finals. He stated that Novak Djokovic’s tremors were genuine, and he did not do it on purpose. However, Mats Wilander believes that unlike their generation, the current set of players like to show their emotions on court.

I think showing your opponent that you’re not feeling well, that you’re shaking a little bit, is really the last thing you want to do. I don’t think this is all done on purpose for any specific reason. It’s just that these days it doesn’t matter anymore. We reveal our emotions to everyone, we show the state in which we are when we play. And afterwards, in a press conference, we say: ‘I’m a little hurt,” said Wilander.

Mats Wilander stated that back in the day, tennis players hid their physical injuries from their opponents. “At the time, we tried to hide everything. I like that it doesn’t matter to Novak, and I don’t think it matters to anyone else either,” said Wilander.

Novak Djokovic was unstoppable in Turin, Italy where he claimed the Nitto ATP Finals title. The Serbian won five consecutive matches to end his season on a high. The seventh seed was placed in a tough group alongside former champions in the form of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev.

In a positive development for the Serbian, his three-year Australian visa ban has been overturned. He is now eligible to compete at the Australian Open in 2023. The former world number one has achieved immense success in Melbourne, winning the first Grand Slam of the calendar year on nine occasions.
