Matteo Berrettini the current world number 6, has been progressing fast to make a name for himself in the tennis world. He has 5 career titles, and he also reached the finals of last year’s Wimbledon. He also made a semifinal appearance in the 2019 US Open and the Australian Open 2022.
Berrettini has become a regular in the top circuit with an ATP top 10 rank and commendable performances in all the Grand Slams. Fans were expecting Berrettini to carry on with his great form to win more titles but a shocking revelation comes from Berrettini.
Matteo Berrettini might miss out on the French Open
Matteo Berrettini withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 events in Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, and Rome due to an injury to his right hand and subsequent surgery. Berrettini revealed through his Instagram that he will be opting out of all the clay season and the tournaments, and dropping out of even the French Open might be a possibility. Berrettini wrote:
“UPDATE – following advice from the medical experts, my team and I have decided that it is crucial I do not put time pressure on my recovery process. We have therefore decided I should withdraw from the Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome tournaments to ensure I give myself the proper amount of time to return at my highest level. Withdrawing from these events, particularly Rome, was an extremely tough decision, however it is the right one to ensure many more years of competing at the highest level for the biggest trophies.
Thanks very much for all the support. My recovery process is on track and I look forward to seeing you on-court soon”
Berrettini made a quarterfinal appearance in the 2021 edition of the French Open. Fans would have been expecting a better performance from him at Roland-Garros but they will have to be content with his complete recovery hope for a quick return for the Italian star, at least for the Wimbledon, if not for the French Open.
