Jannik Sinner has been making strides in tennis for both himself and his country. While Italy may have found a valuable player in the 22-year-old, they are yet to re-welcome another gem of a player, Matteo Berrettini

As one of the high-ranked Italians before Sinner, Berrettini has lost form in recent times due to an injury and is yet to rediscover himself. After a horrific mid-match injury at the US Open, the former Wimbledon finalist joined the Italy team as a mentor and a supporter through the Davis Cup. He witnessed some outstanding performances from his compatriots, who drove Italy to their first Davis Cup win in 47 years.

Invited to the celebrations as well, Berrettini was an integral part of Italy, despite not being able to contribute a lot. In a small talk with Sky Sports, the Italian had only praise for his Italian teammates and even shared some special words for Jannik Sinner.

The boys deserved it, I enjoyed a great moment of tennis. Sinner performed a miracle, I will use this energy for my tennis too. I was pleased with what Jannik said, we have a good relationship that has strengthened in recent months. We are different but similar, we chase the same dream. I'm better, not 100% yet. Soon we will understand where to return.
said Berrettini to Sky Sports

Taking the energy from the boys, Berrettini hopes to return to winning ways in no time. Due to his foot injury, he has been on the sidelines and his return date is also not confirmed. If the 2021’s Wimbledon finalist can manage a timely comeback, Italy would be stacked for the Davis Cup and the Olympics, giving them an even better chance to win.

After the historic Australian win to become only the third Italian to achieve this feat, Sinner returned to his country to be welcomed by the Prime Minister herself

Continuing his celebration, he even got brand deals from top brands like Gucci, Nike, Rolex, and even Formula 1. In a recent press conference in Rome, Sinner had kind words for Berrettini, wishing him a speedy recovery, and even stated that Italy needs the 27-year-old back on tour.

I hope Berrettini comes back soon, we need him. Berrettini complimented me like all the Davis players. We need him on the circuit. He has helped me in the past and if he needs something I will do it too.

Having withdrawn from the Australian Open, Berrettini has not given an official update on his injury. However, he does share a glimpse of his future. With positive vibes, the Italian sets a goal to play for as long as possible.

After coming extremely close to a maiden Slam in Wimbledon, Berrettini hasn’t been able to replicate the performance, allowing his rankings to take a hit. Gearing up to make a comeback, Italy will be excited to add another talent to their team.
