The Australian Open runner-up, Elena Rybakina opens up about her Grand Slam performances so far in her career. The 23-year-old won her first Major last year at Wimbledon and came into the limelight. However, she faced a first-round defeat against a qualifier in the U.S. Open. Nevertheless, she made her mark very soon by reaching the second finals of her career in the Australian Open 2023.
She lost the match after fighting hard against Aryna Sabalenka in an epic three-setter. As Wimbledon stripped all players’ points, Elena was affected the most and couldn’t get a higher seed. Yesterday, she spoke to the Eurosport and talked about her both Grand Slam finals and said she feels more confident than ever. She is all set to play the Abu Dhabi Open from tomorrow.
Speaking about her performances so far, Elena said “I just felt a bit more confident because of course Wimbledon was a great result but you have these doubts, like, maybe it was just luck, or it was a really good draw or something. So, you have kind of these thoughts. But of course, after the second Grand Slam, it’s again final which is a great result. So, you just have more confidence to play in other tournaments.”
She also talked about what went wrong after Wimbledon and said “I think of course when you don’t play the way you wanted to play, you don’t have the results which you kind of expect. The scheduling was really tough for me because I didn’t get the points, so I was chasing the finals and I was trying to play many tournaments. But after Wimbledon, this happened and it was not easy to go and play everything.”

Elena Rybakina enters top 10 in WTA rankings
The long wait to enter the top 10 rankings in WTA has finally arrived for 23-year-old, Elena Rybakina. She couldn’t gain any points from her first Major Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year. Although she had a very poor U.S. Open, she made a strong comeback in the Australian Open in 2023. She had an exceptional Major with the most number of aces in the tournament for a woman.
Although she failed to win in finals and fell short by a close margin, she did play well overall. She feels more confident now and is preparing herself for the rest of the season. With her Australian Open performance, she climbed up the rankings and reached the top 10 for the first time in her career. Fans and experts believe that she can be more dangerous to other players in coming tournaments and her ranking only gets better.
