“Maybe she does not need a fulltime coach,” Barbara Schett shares a fresh perspective on Emma Raducanu

Britain’s No.1 Emma Raducanu was brutally trolled and criticised for her constant chopping and changing of coaches as she parted ways with former coach Torben Beltz even after a decent start to her clay court career. While different tennis experts have come up with different opinions former tennis star Barbara Schett has shared her’s on the entire Raducanu scenario.

Schett agreed that it was a shock to hear that she had parted ways with Beltz but she also argued how people take time to understand each other and she might have felt something that led to that call. “It was a bit of a shock to hear that she split with Torben Beltz,” she said. “But you never know. You have to work with somebody together for a few months to actually see if you’re fitting or not – that could have been cultural differences,” Schett told in an interaction on Eurosport.

The former World No.8 believes that maybe it is Raducanu’s way of learning new things from different coaches until she gets the right one that suits her completely. She feels that the youngster has taken in good things from her last three former coaches and that is reflecting on her game right now. “But I think even though Emma has had a few coaches along the way, in the last year or two, she’s been really inhaling some sort of information from each of them, which actually makes her a bit of a better tennis player, and I think it shows in her form now,” Schett added.

Emma Raducanu has changed three coaches in a year. She was with Nigel Spears and despite doing well at the Wimbledon she parted ways with him and joined hands with Andrew Richardson who led her to the triumph of the US Open. She created history at the Flushing Meadows but shockingly did not extend her stay with Richardson. She then appointed Torben Beltz and despite a good outing at the Stuttgart Open, she parted ways with the German.

Maybe she just needs a hitting partner: Barbara Schett shares her opinion on Emma Raducanu’s coach situation

Barbara Schett feels that maybe Emma Raducanu prefers a hitting partner who could travel with her and help her during training rather than a proper coach. The Austrian also adds how the Brit is young and figuring it out on the tour. “Maybe she is a player who doesn’t need a full-time coach. Maybe she needs a hitting partner who travels with her who she can hit with all the time. She is still figuring all of that out, but at the moment, it looks like she’s really on the right track,” Schett added.

Raducanu has already won her first two matches at the Madrid Open as she defeated Tereza Martincova and Marta Kostyuk respectively and will face Angelina Kalnina as she fights for a place in the quarterfinals, which will be her third since the US Open triumph. This is her debut clay court season on tour and she has been fabulous right from the Billie Jean King Cup to the Stuttgart Open and now in the Spanish capital.
