“Enough with this BLACK bias!” Naomi Osaka bashed on Twitter for ‘disrespectfully’ dismissing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, calls Serena Williams the ‘ultimate GOAT’
Serena Williams, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal
A few weeks ago, Serena Williams announced that she will be retiring from tennis after the US Open. The news came with a wave of sadness in the air given the aura Serena had and the impact she had on the court. Serena is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time and is credited to have changed the women’s game.
In a pre-tournament press conference at the US Open, 4-time major champion Naomi Osaka spoke about Serena’s retirement. She went on to say that she is the biggest thing that will ever be in the sport- even bigger than the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Osaka said that she isn’t trying to make Federer or Nadal small, but Serena is the biggest force in the sport.
“I honestly think that she’s, like, the biggest force in the sport,” she said. “That’s not intentionally trying to, like, make Federer or Nadal smaller. I just think she’s the biggest thing that will ever be in the sport. It’s just really an honor just to watch her play. She’s giving us a chance to, like, watch her more.”
Twitter slams Naomi Osaka for demeaning Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal
As soon as Osaka’s statement came out, there was a lot of rage among fans online. Both Federer and Nadal’s fans were offended by her statement and went on to say that Serena only gets so much credit because she’s a black woman. Adding to that, even Novak Djokovic’s fans were fuming at Osaka for not even mentioning him with Federer and Nadal.
Osaka will open her US Open campaign against in form Danielle Collins on Tuesday night. The Japanese has won at least one major in the last 4 years and this will be the last chance for her to make it 5 years in a row.
