The former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka continues to promote healthy habits on the court, as she recently was seen writing down a few words in her journal at the ongoing Miami Open. The Japanese pro had always been an advocate for mental health and had revealed earlier in the year that journaling has now become a part of her daily routine.

In mid-2021, Osaka had depression and other mental health problems that saw a major downfall in her gameplay. She had retired from the 2021 French Open, pulled out of the subsequent Wimbledon, and lost early at the US Open, ultimately forcing her to take a break from the sport.

It was important to me to be public because I think it gives me clarity. Just saying out loud that I'll take a break and I'll come back when I am truly in love with the sport and I know what I want to do here; it gave me time to reset myself,
said Osaka in a recent interview.

However, Osaka returned afresh, with a new mindset. She had recently even stated that talking about her mental health gives her clarity and helps her to break that mental block. Another helpful tip she gave was journaling.

Lately, I've been writing in my journal, and I think that keeps my thoughts in order,
said Osaka in an interview with Good Morning America.

Osaka had spoken about the importance of journaling, and how this small activity kept her thoughts at bay, clearing her mind. Ever since she returned, the Japanese have been journaling during set breaks. She recently did the same during her Miami Open second-round clash against Caroline Garcia

Naomi Osaka and Caroline Garcia’s rivalry continues

Naomi Osaka has been on the rise ever since she returned to court earlier this year. Though she had a couple of early exits, the Japanese ace soon caught on momentum and has since won more frequently.

On Sunday, she seemed in wonderful touch during her Miami Open match against Caroline Garcia. This was the fourth time Osaka was up against the Frenchwoman, and both the women had put up a good show after three great outings previously. Garcia had put up a fabulous show, pushing Osaka to play her best tennis.

The first set went till the 7-point tie-break, won by Garcia, and after a small journaling break, the four-time Grand Slam winner made a good attempt at a comeback but fell short. It was Garcia, with a timely break, that put her in the lead and eventually won the match 7-6(4), 7-5. With this, she managed to equal her head-to-head record against Osaka.
