Serena Wiliam with Naomi Osaka
As per statistics, tennis players are one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, boasting millions of followers on their social media handles. The American business and lifestyle magazine Forbes released a list of the highest-paid female athletes in the world. Unsurprisingly, female tennis superstars took the spots.
Naomi Osaka, who shot to fame after winning the 2018 US Open title, is the highest-paid female athlete in the world. She minted a whopping $51.1 million. This is despite not being able to win any major title or any WTA tournament this season. She achieved this feat thrice consecutively. Her brand endorsements helped her greatly. Besides, starting her own business, a sports agency called Evolve with her agent Stuart Duguid, she has also been busy with brand endorsements.
Nissin, Yonex, Nike, Nike, MasterCard, and Citizen, are some brands she endorses. She also released her children’s book, “The Way Champs Play” and invested in the Major League Pickleball team.
Serena Williams again managed to bag the second spot in the rankings. This year too, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, played little tennis on the court in tournaments and also saw her retiring from the sport. However, despite all the obstacles, the American professional still managed to earn a whopping $41.3 million. Interestingly, both the ladies earned more than double the third-ranked athlete on the list.
The third name on the list and highest-paid non-tennis-playing athlete on the list is Chinese skier Eileen Gu. She minted $20.1 million this year.
Emma Raducanu and Iga Swiatek are also in the Top 10 of Highest-Paid Female Athletes List of 2022
Emma Raducanu recently dropped to No. 80 in the current WTA rankings. However, it has not dented her marketability. The British tennis superstar endorses several brands which helped her earn $18.7 million and the fourth spot in the Forbes Highest-paid female athletes List of 2022.
Iga Swiatek is ranked fifth on the list. She earned a whopping $14.9 million. However, most of her earnings came from prize money. She won the 2022 French Open and US Open titles, along with 6 WTA titles. Along with her younger sister, Serena Williams, 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has also made it to the Top 10. She is taking the sixth spot with earnings of $12.1 million. The young Americans- Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are on the list. Coco Gauff takes the seventh spot with $11.1 million and Jessica Pegula takes the ninth spot with $7.6 million in earnings.
Other tennis players in the Top 25 include Leylah Fernandez at 13th, Ons Jabeur at 15th, Paula Badosa at 16th, Caroline Garcia, and Garbine Muguruza at 24th.
