World No. 81 Andy Murray made a shocking U-turn when he accepted the wildcard to play in the upcoming 2022 Madrid Masters. The Brit had earlier announced that he would be skipping the Clay season to remain fit for the Grasscourt season where he aims to claim his first title since having won the European Open back in 2019.

Murray’s decision was backed by the known challenge the clay surface has and given his struggles with fitness over the past few seasons that kept him out of the Top-100 for 45 months before he returned to double-digit ranking this year, the Brit decided it was too big a risk to expose his body and risk any injury.

The appearance at the 2022 Madrid Masters for Murray will be his first under coach Ivan Lendl who has rejoined the 3-time Grand Slam champion for a third spell together after highly successful two spells earlier that saw Murray claim all three of his majors, his successful Olympics Gold defence and also reach the World No. 1 rank.

The trip to Madrid has not started well however as Murray upon arrival lost his bags at the airport which also contained his tennis rackets and other kit items. A similar case had happened earlier with Murray during last year’s Indian Wells Masters when his shoes were stolen that he had left out to dry and the shoes had his wedding ring also attached to them, a practice Murray has followed since his wedding to not lose the ring ever. While he got the shoes and ring back soon in Indian Wells, he is yet to announce whether his bags have been found or not.

“@Iberia what number or email should passengers use to contact for missing baggage? I need my tennis rackets back,” tweeted Murray tagging the airlines through which he had travelled.

With Murray being an active Twitter user, his tweet was quickly viral and many users provided him with all kinds of solutions. While some joked about his misery, others put out some advice. The official account of Iberia also responded to Murray for his complaint and sought to solve the issue as quickly as possible.
