Nick Kyrgios is one of the most controversial tennis players on the current circuit. The Australian never hesitates to put forward his opinion, which has landed him in cold waters with many umpires over the years. The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has had several confrontations on court with umpires over some disagreement regarding the current rules.
Recently, Nick Kyrgios lashed out at the ‘pee’ rules in tennis. This has been one of the grey areas in the sport over the last couple of years, as the Australian tennis star has asked the ATP to look into this matter. Nick Kyrgios calls himself the ‘leading fine guy,’ as he has been penalized heavily for getting in arguments with the chair umpire.
“The pee thing is just stupid, the tennis rules are just so dumb. I’m always in arguments with the umpires. I have been fined; I am the leading fine guy,” said Kyrgios.

Nick Kyrgios says big personalities in tennis are a ‘bit inside the box’
Nick Kyrgios also criticized the approach of some big personalities in tennis, who are a bit inside the box. He revealed that he has started toning down his anger on court to avoid suspensions.
“The personalities in tennis are a bit inside the box. I just feel like, I am not doing anything crazy. If you compare it to other sports, just being yourself … but in tennis, I cannot walk the line too much because they would just suspend me, and I need to play,” said Kyrgios.
The 27-year old lashed out at the ATP for their double standards, given that they have used him, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as marketing figures. However, when it comes to breaking rules, Kyrgios believes that he is the first person to get penalized.
“There are not many people at the moment like me, like that, but then when they want to post on social media about tennis, it is always about me or Nadal or Djokovic, no one else. Then they are like, ‘oh, you can’t do this’, but then they will use my name to bring tickets and fans,” he added.
Nick Kyrgios is yet to step on to court in 2023, given that he suffered an injury on his left knee on the eve of the Australian Open. The controversial tennis star has missed several tournaments in the past couple of months, but hopes to return in time for the Indian Wells Masters.
