Nick Kyrgios claims the 2022 Australia’s Player of the Year Award after his incredible performances throughout the season
Nick Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios is regarded as one of the best players in the world at the moment with his spectacular and notable performances of the year and is currently one of the flag bearers of tennis in Australia. He has proved himself as one of the most challenging opponents for anyone in the world and has made a strong hold on his place as he defeated some big names on the big stages.
Kyrgios’s quest for another great finish at another Grand Slam tournament got a full stop when he was defeated by Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals of the 2022 US Open losing in a thrilling 5-set match. Kyrgios had defeated the world number one Daniil Medvedev in four sets to make his place into the final eight for the first time at US Open.
Nick Kyrgios adds another accolade to his name by winning the ‘Player of the Year’ award after a spectacular 2022 season
Kyrgios made his place in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon championship for the very first time in the singles category but lost to the Serbian Novak Djokovic in 4-sets. He had quite a decent outing during the hard-court season as he won the title at Citi Open followed by reaching the quarter-finals at the Canadian Open but failed to continue his form at the Cincinnati Open.
He has already won 35 matches this season and with his spectacular performances overall, his efforts were widely appreciated and acknowledged as he finally won the ‘Australian Athlete of the Year Award‘ at the Tennis ACT Awards 2022 for his constant hard work, dedication, and love for the sport.
The 2022 Tennis ACT Awards recognized many players such as the best junior male athlete – Charlie Camus, and the best junior female athlete – Wambui Taylor, but it was the 2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios who claimed his trophy. With his exponential performance, there was exceptional growth in his ATP rankings and it was something that was highly appreciated and one of the reasons to be named the winner.
Kyrgios apart from his racquet skills is widely known for his on-court antics where he resorts to throwing and bashing racquets, and verbal spats with umpires and sometimes even spectators for which he has been fined and issued warnings and penalties but that has been an area of concern since he fails to keep his emotions in check. After his quarter-final loss at the US Open, a similar incident of bashing his racquets was seen which caused a hefty penalty.
