Richard Gasquet still has the potential of bringing fans to the court. No one else but Aussie player, Nick Kyrgios, working for Eurosport for the 2024 Australian Open admitted it. Gasquet, a French player, although lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the round 1 match, was able to garner a lot of support in the Rod Laver Arena.

Kyrgios, who is known for his outspoken nature, never hesitates to tell the truth. Although Richard Gasquet’s career has not been on track for several years, he still manages to fill the court. Critics believe that the Frenchmen’s career will end soon but Kyrgios hopes for the opposite.

Bringing fans to the court is not easy. Only big players like the ‘Big 3‘ or the Williams sisters, in the past, could fill up the stadium. All an event needs for good monetary profit is a stadium full of people, and if Gasquet is able to do that he should stay for long.

After today’s match, ‘analyst’ Kyrgios stated:

I hope it's not the last time we have watched Gasquet here. He still brings the fans.

Playing against a popular player like Alcaraz, if Gasquet can bring his own good share of the crowd, then maybe as Kyrgios stated, the tennis world hopes he stays for long.

The first set lasted 62 minutes and culminated in a tight tiebreaker. Both Alcaraz and Gasquet had outstanding shot-making abilities, unwilling to give up control. The highlight of the set was Gasquet’s amazing backhand winner, which levelled the tie-breaker at 3-3. Alcaraz responded with his own backhand brilliance, eventually clinching the set point at 6-5 with a powerful forehand. The Spaniard won the tiebreaker 7-5, setting the tone for his strong performance.

Alcaraz’s serve proved to be a strong weapon, with a 73% success rate on his first serve and a 72% success rate on his second, defeating Gasquet’s 59% and 39%, respectively. The Spaniard dominated the game, scoring 121 points to Gasquet’s 90 and winning 19 games to Gasquet’s nine.

In addition to his strong serving, Alcaraz converted four of 16 break-point opportunities, while Gasquet struggled to secure any. The Spanish sensation demonstrated his domination by winning seven consecutive games and going on an incredible ten-point spree during the match.
