World No. 2 Novak Djokovic was in absolute control of his US Open semi-final matchup against American hotshot Ben Shelton, beating the young prodigy in straight sets by a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6. Djokovic was in a different mood all through the match and even responded to the crowd during the course of the match.
After the match, Djokovic used Shelton’s celebration, which is the phone call sign, to respond to the crowd. Novak issued the phone celebration and then followed it up by hanging up the call sign to mock Shelton. Both shared a very cold handshake after that, and it left the Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios in absolute delight over the Serbian.
A video was uploaded on Twitter by a page named The Tennis Letter that showed a celebration of Novbak after the match. Nick retweeted the post with a caption saying, “COLD”. It surely didn’t come as a surprise to many tennis fans, as Djokovic is known for his celebrations on the court, and it’s not a rare sight to see him give it back to the crowds.

Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have always gifted the tennis world with a great brand of tennis whenever they have faced each other on the grandest stage of the sport. Medvedev has simply been unplayable in the ongoing US Open, cruising through players such as De Mianur and Andrey Rublev and shocking everyone when they knocked out tournament favorite Carlos Alcaraz on Friday with a great 6-7, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6 win over the Spaniard.
Both players will meet each other for the 15th time in their careers on Sunday, with both of them very familiar with each other’s playing styles. In the head-to-head encounters, Djokovic is ahead, having won nine matches compared to Medvedev’s five. They last met at this year’s Dubai Championships, which the Russian won comfortably.
The last time they met at the US Open, Medvedev pounced upon the Serbian to lift his first-ever Grand Slam way back in 2021, and now he has the chance to win his second tomorrow.
