Nick Kyrgios labels Stefanos Tsitsipas ‘SOFT’ for complaining and calling the Aussie a ‘bully’ after their fiery Wimbledon clash

One of the highlights of the 2022 Wimbledon was the run to the finals by Nick Kyrgios. The Aussie had long been in the wings owing to his big potential that was untapped. His personal life setbacks and constant fights with the authorities saw him get on the wrong side of fans. He however had an inspiring run at the Championships finishing runner-up to three-time defending champ Novak Djokovic.
While Kyrgios did have some bratty moments during the fortnight, his fight with Stefanos Tsitsipas was a big talking point. Having met in the third round, Kyrgios won the match in four sets not before wanting the Greek defaulted for his wayward shot in the stands. The two had constant verbal exchanges and Stef even refused a proper handshake at the end. He went on to call the Aussie a ‘bully’ during his press conference claiming he was highly non-professional.
While Kyrgios did give a stern reply then itself, he added further spice to the incident while speaking on Netflix’s docu-series BreakPoint. “It was a great match to win but unfortunately it got turned into a silly circus show. I am very sorry that it escalated that way. I ended up getting angry. It was an insane match. The tennis world painted me as this crazy villain. But I love that, I thrive in those moments, I thrive in the chaos. I love to see when my opponent is more focused on me than the tennis.
“I am not sure how I bullied him. For him to come in here and say I bullied him, that is just soft. We are not cut from the same cloth. Everything I did worked. I am not going out there to be his friend and say: ‘Beautiful shot Stefanos.’ I am just going to be myself,” said Kyrgios on the show that aired its latest episode recently.

As the match got heated at Wimbledon, the actions of both players worsened. Nick Kyrgios continued to verbally mock the Greek and teased him with underarm services and some fine shots. Stefanos Tsitsipas however had a different approach and rather looked to hurt the Aussie physically.
During his press conference after the match, Stef admitted to trying to hit shots at Kyrgios’ body. His anger and frustration had grown enough for him to lose his rationale and not think of consequences.
But luckily for the sakes of both, the shots missed and Kyrgios wasn’t physically hurt. The actions were however noted by the officials and both players were served hefty fines for their individual actions.
