Nick Kyrgios looks for the dismissal of his assault charges on his ex-girlfriend on grounds of mental health

Nick Kyrgios, the 27-year-old Australian tennis professional has cemented his position as one of the best players in the world currently. Kyrgios is enjoying a very successful season this time around, he managed to reach the finals of Wimbledon and won the Citi Open in Washington.
Nick Kygios recently captured a lot of headlines due to a court case filed on him by his ex-girlfriend. The Australian’s ex-girlfriend fired an assault charge on Kyrgios a few months ago. If convicted, Kyrgios could face up to two years in prison. Kyrgios will soon be competing in the Japan Open and he is not required to show up for the court hearing on Tuesday.
The Lawyers of the Australian superstar said that they will be applying to have the assault charge against him dismissed on the grounds of mental health. Only time will tell if Kyrgios will be convicted or not, he also admitted that the case is not interfering with his tennis and that he is fully focused.
Nick Kyrgios will be competing at the Japan Open following his court case
The Rakuten Japan Open commences from today. Nick Kyrgios is scheduled to face Taiwan’s Tseng Chun-hsin in the first round of the tournament. Despite his hearing of the assault charges, Kyrgios will be going at it in the ATP 500 tournament and trying to go all out for a shot at the title.
Talkinga about his focus, Kyrgios said, “There’s only so much I can control and I’m taking all the steps and dealing with that off the court. “I can only do what I can and I’m here in Tokyo and just trying to play some good tennis, continue that momentum and just try to do my job – and that’s play tennis, play it well. That’s it.”
Kyrgios has spoken about his mental health struggles in the past and whether that will be a significant factor to turn the tide of the court case in his favour is something only time can tell.
