Frances Tiafoe and Nick Kyrgios
Australian World No.26 Nick Kyrgios has been named as the captain of Team World for the Laver Cup. The announcement has been welcomed by his teammates Frances Tiafoe as well as Jack Sack. The post was shared by the Australian on his Instagram handle and an excited Tiafoe commented on the same sharing his excitement.
Kyrgios captioned the post, “kid from Canberra REPRESENTING THE WORLD. can’t wait to join the team and assisting in ANY way possible. LETS GO….. this journey has been crazy“. The exact comment Tiafoe made was, “Man this hypes me up to another level“.
The McEnroe-led team includes Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Jack Sock who was part of the team for the last five years has not confirmed his participation this year. But his emoji of eyes as a comment under Kyrgios’ post means that the American is also excited about the tournament.
Nick Kyrgios is expected to be back for the Grass season
The Australian World No.26 Nick Kyrgios is yet to play a tournament this year after a successful 2022 where he won his first Grand Slam title, in doubles, down under. He also played in a singles Grand Slam final at Wimbledon. As it appears, the Australian will be looking to come back for the grass season and possibly peak at Wimbledon. With a strong service game, Kyrgios loves playing on the grass courts.
The Aussie recently revealed that he is not quite sure yet when he will be back on the tennis tour. He also said that he is not at all in a hurry to return to the circuit after a successful knee injury at the start of the year. The tennis fans were connecting his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi’s comment previously on her wish to visit Paris and Kyrgios’ response to playing French Open for that. Nevertheless, it won’t happen this year.
As per Kyrgios, “Currently taking it day by day with my knee and building up the load. Trying to get back to where I was. The surgery was a great success. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of it. Now we will be pushing ahead for a speedy recovery and are aiming to see everyone at Indian Wells.”
