The Australian Open finally got the biggest thriller of the 2023 season yesterday. The second-round match between Thanasi Kokkinakis and Andy Murray in Margret Court Arena produced a spectacle to be remembered for the ages. In the end, Murray emerged victorious, but the resistance shown by Kokkinakis was not something to forget about.

The victory of Murray didn’t mean Kokkinakis’s game was inferior to the British star. This was the kind of match where no one could predict the outcome until the last point. After the encounter, Kokkinakis looked devastated. He gave everything on the court, but it was just not his day.

The 2022 Australian Open doubles champion Thanasi Kokkinakis started well against the British star taking the first two sets. In the subsequent three sets, Murray made a recovery and snatched the game from Kokkinakis. The match lasted for more than five hours ending at around 4 AM Melbourne time.

The match was filled with all types of drama imaginable on a tennis court. Thrilling action from both sides, fiery exchanges with the umpire, and emotions after winning an incredible rally, the epic battle had it all. The match was evenly balanced until the last point.

After the match, Kokkinakis felt dejected as he had given it all but ended up on the losing side. The game once again highlighted the cruel nature of sports with a thin line between glory and despair. Kokkinakis will definitely take some time before bouncing back.
