Ben Shelton had a promising season this year, as the American constantly showed good performances in major tournaments. Shelton reached a career-high singles rank of 15 in October this year. However, the 21-year-old concluded the season with a singles rank of 17. This season, Shelton has a win-loss record of 26-24.
That’s not all; the young professional also won his first Tour-level title by winning the Japan Open. He defeated Aslan Karatsev in the finals of the tournament to clinch the title. Shelton also showed some considerable good performances in the major Grand Slams for a player who was playing his first full season on the ATP Tour.
Firstly, in the Australian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, and then in the US Open, where he reached the semis of a major Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
Can 2024 be the ultimate year for Ben Shelton?
The Australian Nick Kyrgios has lauded the American for his aggressive style of play and his serves. Kyrgios has also drawn parallels to his game, as he also has a similar aggressive style of play as well as fast serves.
Staring the opponent in the eye is a feature of Kyrgios’s game. Moreover, the resilience and calmness with which Shelton has played in the Grand Slams are praise-worthy.

His consistent good performances this season have put him on the radar. At the start of the season, Shelton was ranked 96 in the singles rankings. By the season’s end, the American has taken a huge leap to 17.
This is a testament to all the good performances and hard work he has shown. Though he missed out on the Wimbledon and the French Open, taking early exits for both tournaments, he has shown great character in the US Open, where he lost to eventual champion and current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semis.
The promising skills that Shelton has shown will keep the fans hoping that the American goes big in the next season. Shelton will be next featured in the Brisbane International, the warmup to the Australian Open. It is scheduled to begin from December 31, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
