These two go way back when they were doubles partners. Furthermore, they have also played for Australia in the Davis Cup. No wonder, considering this history, Kyrgios was cheering on his teammate ahead of his first match at the Miami Open.

On the business side of things, Thompson was supposed to play the Round of 128 against Nuno Borges, which was canceled, sending the Australian to the next round automatically. He will now face the Frenchman Gael Monfils, who is fresh off a straight-set victory against Dusan Lajovic

Late bloomer Jordan Thompson continues to startle the big names of tennis, as he extends his win streak

Jordan Thompson has been on the rise over the last few months. From the start of 2024, the Australian has been on a winning streak against the tennis giants. He started the year with a missive win over Rafael Nadal at the Brisbane International, tainting the Spaniard’s comeback.

Furthermore, he had his peak moment at the Los Cabos Open, beating Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud back to back. He edged out a win over Zverev in the third set tie-break, and that momentum into the finals, to win the title. Moreover, he not only won the singles title but also the doubles title in Los Cabos.

Without rest, he pushed through three hectic nights to win both singles and doubles to finish off a memorable evening. All eyes were on the Australian for the Indian Wells but unfortunately suffered a first-round loss. Now with the second half of the Sunshine Double underway, Thompson will hope to make his presence felt, as he is up against another big name, Gael Monfils, this weekend.
