Nick Kyrgios
The flamboyant tennis star Nick Kyrgios never shies away from making his opinions public be it issues related to the sport or others. Lately, he has been very animated in countering his critics who have painted a ‘bad boy’ picture of Kyrgios. The 27-year-old believes that he remains the fans’ favorite despite the negative opinion about him.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist recently pointed out how he is one of the players to pull the crowd to the stadiums. In the upcoming Netflix docuseries ‘Break Point’, Kyrgios is the biggest selling point among the featured stars. This corroborates the claims of Kyrgios, he feels.
This time Kygios pointed out the double standard when it comes to him and the other tennis players. On Friday through a comment on Twitter, he took a dig at default rules when during doubles match Portuguese player Jaime Faria almost hit the opponents with the ball. Faria struck the ball with his racquet in frustration after losing a doubles point at the Oeiras challenger which almost hit his celebrating opponents.
“Hahahaha let me guess no default????,” Kyrgios commented sarcastically on the clip shared by Ben Rothenberg. Faria was given just a warning whereas many including Kyrgios himself believe that the Portuguese should have defaulted. Faria eventually went on to win the match.
The reasoning in Faria’s case was given that ‘nobody was hit’ which is debatable. In an earlier case of Kyrgios, the Aussie defaulted from a match at the Italian Open for throwing a chair on the court.
