“No more questions about it” Russian-born Elena Rybakina hits back at journalists for pestering her regarding the Wimbledon ban

Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina, the 23-year-old Moscow-born Kazhak player reached her maiden major final on Thursday after defeating Simona Halep in the semi-finals at the Centre Court by 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets. She is scheduled to play Ons Jabuer today in the 2022 Wimbledon finals and will be eyeing her first-ever major title win.

Ever since the ban announced by the Wimbledon organizers that the Russian and Belarusian players will not be permitted to participate in the tournament, the nationality of Rybakina has been a popular topic among journalists. Born in Russia, Rybakina decided to represent Kazakhstan in 2019 and that is how she was allowed to participate in this year’s Wimbledon and it has seen her reach her maiden major final as well.

“I have already answered these questions,” Elena Rybakina lashes out at journalists regarding the ban on Russian players.

Elena Rybakina made it clear that she was tired of asking the same questions every day regarding the ban on Russian and Belarusian players, she said, “I have already answered these questions: I have already played for Kazakhstan for a long time. I am really happy to represent Kazakhstan. They believed in me. There are no more questions to be had about how I feel. I played in the Olympic Games, and in the Fed Cup for this country, what does it mean for you to “feel”? I feel sorry for the players who couldn’t come here, but I just like playing here on the biggest stage, enjoying my time and trying to do my best.

Despite changing her nationality to Kazakhstan, Rybakina was born in Moscow, Russia, and has now reached the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon but her being born in Moscow is irrelevant to the ban announced by Wimbledon due to her official nationality being Kazakhstani. Rybakina will face a challenging match against Ons Jabeur in the finals who seems to be very confident ahead of her match-up with Rybakina.
