There have been various controversies over the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports which gave rise to many opinions by fans, media, and athletes alike. There were various suggestions as to whether intersex sports should be a different category or if they should be mixed in like the rest of them.

Former professional Czech-American player and gay rights activist, Martina Navratilova took to Twitter after the International Council on Women’s Sport (ICONS) condemned the nomination of a male for NCAA Woman of the Year. Navratilova made a snide remark in response to ICONS’ tweet asking them if there aren’t enough biologically female athletes to choose from sarcastically.

This is not the first time the Czech-American has disapproved of a decision as she criticized the Internationational Olympic Committee a few weeks ago for supposedly offloading the responsibility of transgender issues to sports federations, and expressed her displeasure as they were not reviewing their eligibility roles, she said “The IOC has completely punted, That ‘Oh, we will leave it up to the individual federations. How can these individual federations within their country make their different rules? They have to do the research and the implementation … and it costs money to then figure it out, and it’s impossible.

Few questions the eligibility of transgender people to associate with a specific gender, to choose who they associate with, and ask not to be discriminated against which is the bare minimum. In response to ICONS, Navratilova made a tweet saying “Wow- the pattern continues. Happened before in the US with Caitlyn Jenner, happened in New Zealand with Laurel Hubbard and now this again? Not enough biological women athletes to choose from?!?
