“Not even in a Challenger had it happened to me” Nicolás Barrientos lamented about the sad state of affairs at the Napoli Cup
Nicolás Barrientos
Nicolás Barrientos is a Colombian professional tennis player. Currently, he is participating in the Napoli Cup with his partner Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela. When he came back to his hotel, he was horrified to notice that all his and his wife’s belongings were thrown on the floor. Barrientos took to Twitter to tell the world about his ordeal.
He then went further and explained in detail what happened to him and his wife’s belongings.
He also recalled a previous incident where he got an email asking him to change the hotel room while he was playing. He had to change his hotel room once before, on the second day of his stay at the hotel.
“I check my email and see an email that arrived at 4 pm while I was playing, notifying me that I had to change hotels again. They had already changed me once on the second day of my arrival at the tournament,” he tweeted telling the turn of events.
“Transportation not to mention, the tournament has very few cars and you can already imagine how difficult it is to go from one place to another. I think there are incidents in tournaments that are solved along the way,” the Colombian tennis player explained.
He further explained the ordeal of players has to face every day while playing in the tournament. His list of complaints is long and tells us how irresponsible the organizers can be.
“I think I don’t even need to mention the fact that the courts that everyone knows, and the qualifier and first round of doubles were played at a club 40 minutes from the official club,” he added.
He was upset with the way ATP tournaments have been organized in the past and this year. “But none of this is accidental, the poor organization and planning of this tournament have made it impossible to deal with every problem that comes up with every day,” he tweeted.
“I hope the @atptour take measures to prevent players from having to go through these situations. Especially when the same incident is repeated in tournaments organized by the same company,” he lamented.
The ATP must be cognizant of the situation and must take necessary measures so that the players do not have to face problems. Such problems can affect the physical and mental well-being of a player. This can lead to poor performances on the court. When millions of dollars are involved and are at stake, such issues can leave a bad taste in the mouth of the players and fans.
