The winner of the second round will either be taking Jannik Sinner or Nuno Borges in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Despite being eliminated from the singles category, Fabio Fognini still has a shot at the title in the doubles category. The Italian is pairing up with compatriot Simone Bolelli and will be taking on Alexander Donski and Alexander Lazarov in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Before the Sofia Open, Fognini competed at the US Open where he defeated Aslan Karatsev in the first round. But he had to, unfortunately, bow out of the tournament after Rafael Nadal defeated him in the second round at Flushing Meadows.
