World No. 44 Ajla Tomljanovic came close to her first major semi-final but was defeated in 3-sets by Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Rybakina won the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals leaving Ajla stuck in the quarter-finals yet again as she had made it to the last-8 in the 2021 edition of Wimbledon as well.

Despite a good run at the Grand Slam, Ajla expressed her disappointment over the journalists during her post-match press conference after her exit from the tournament. After a close battle of 1 hour and 51 minutes, Ajla expected some questions and comments about her performance but it was not the case and the Australian did not hesitate from calling out the poor journalism at the All-England Club.

Ajla had previously been in a relationship with compatriot and fellow tennis player Nick Kyrgios from 2017 to 2018. While the two have not discussed their relationship much in the press, the recent sexual assault case against Kyrgios from his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari has seen the player’s all former relationships getting discussed once again in the press and it was the same case with Ajla as the majority of the questions including the first questions was about details about her relationship with Nick and not her match.

“Quite disappointing that after almost 2 hours of playing my quarterfinals that that was the first question the journalist chose to ask me, and never proceeded to ask anything match related. Glad to see headlines mostly about that now. Do better,” tweeted Ajla calling out all the journalists during her press conference.
