Novak Djokovic acknowledges the contribution of indigenous people as he received ‘blessed’ trophy
Novak Djokovic got the blessings of Uncle Mugi, a member of indigenous and aboriginal community as he looks to win the Australian Open title.

Since, Novak Djokovic has stepped foot in Australia, he is embarking on positivity. The Australian tennis fans welcomed him with open arms. They flocked to the stadium in large numbers to support him as he played in the 2023 Adelaide International 1 tournament over the course of the week.
Even a member of the indigenous community- Uncle Mugi came at the trophy ceremony. The crowd cheered as he arrived on the court. He blessed both trophies.
“On behalf of my mother’s people, Ghana and all ancestors, I remove this negative energy,” said Uncle Mugi and began his ritual.
Novak Djokovic seemed impressed with this ritual. He thanked the man for this gesture as he collected the trophy.
“I thank the people who have been here for thousands of years. Thank you for passing on the culture of your people and see you next year,” he said.
He defeated Sebastian Korda 6(8)-7(10), 7(7)-6(3), 6-4 in the final match of the tournament to win his career’s 92nd ATP singles title.

All eyes on Australian Open 2023
Novak Djokovic last played at this Grand Slam in 2021. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 to win his career’s 9th Australian Open title. However, last time, he could not get the chance to defend his title as he was deported disgracefully just a day before the start of the Australian Open 2022 because of the ambiguity over his vaccination status against Covid-19.
Sitting out, he saw his old rival Rafael Nadal lift the Australian Open 2022 trophy. This year he walked on Australian soil with the sole motive to win the Australian Open. Australian tennis fans also would like him to script history.
But defending champion Rafael Nadal would like to win the title for himself. With Roger Federer retiring, Carlos Alcaraz out of the competition because of an injury and doubts over crowd-favorite Nick Kyrgios‘ participation at the competition, this could be the chance for him to win his career’s third Australian Open title. However, the only great hurdle before him is the Serb.
It is expected that the two greats of the game will meet each other in the Final of the first Grand Slam of the season. It will be a mouth-watering contest. Novak Djokovic would love to have a repeat of the Australian Open 2019 final. In that match, he defeated the Spaniard 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. It is to be seen how it plays out this time.
