Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz
Novak Djokovic received blowback from Carlos Alcaraz this season after the Spaniard thwarted his dream of a record-breaking 8th Wimbledon title during the summit clash of the All-England Club event.
After a heavy-hitting contest that lasted five sets, Alcaraz turned the tables on the Serb and registered a comeback victory, 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, to lift his maiden SW19 crown. However, Nole recently revealed how that loss motivated him to dominate his way through the North American hardcourt swing, including the 2023 US Open.
During a recent appearance on the ’60 Minutes Interview’ with CBS, Novak Djokovic admitted that his Wimbledon final loss against the 20-year-old “pissed” him.
The Serb later added by saying that his grass court loss fueled him to emerge victorious at all the ATP hard court events, which included triumphing at the US Open for the fourth time in his career.
Yes, absolutely, it was. And– and you're right because that pissed me off so much (laugh) that I needed to win everything on American soil, which I did. It's a great opportunity for me to reinvent myself and really push harder than I ever did.He said during his 60 Minutes Interview with CBS.
Thanks to his SW19 loss to Alcaraz, Nole was left one title shy of clinching a Calendar Year Grand Slam. However, with his US Open triumph over Daniil Medvedev in the event’s summit clash, the Serb became the first tennis professional to level Margaret Court‘s 24 Major Crowns record.
The 36-year-old also claimed the season’s Nitto ATP Finals trophy after he overpowered Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the final. With this victory, the Serb achieved the feat of being named the year-end World No. 1.
