Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have ‘different requests’ ahead of their potential clash in the French Open
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
With both players winning their third-round matches, a quarterfinal showdown between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the 2022 French Open is just a round away. If the match does go through, Djokovic feels Nadal and himself will have different preferences regarding the session in which the match will be played. The World No. 1 must first defeat Diego Schwartzman, while Nadal must defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round on Sunday in order for the blockbuster match to take place.
In a recent interview, the Serbian superstar was asked if he would like to play Nadal during the day or at night. Djokovic stated that they would approach the organisers with several proposals, stating that he would prefer the night session.
“Rafa and I might make totally different requests”- Novak Djokovic
While 13-time winner Nadal favours the daytime matchup, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has acknowledged that a potential problem may arise in the coming days. Djokovic stated, “All I’ll say is Rafa and I might make totally different requests.”
Nadal explained his stance saying, “I don’t like to play on clay during the night, because humidity is higher, the ball is slower, and can be very heavy conditions especially when it’s cold. I think that makes a big difference on the way who played tennis on clay during the night and during the day.”
However, with night sessions – a new element for 2022 – on the tournament’s main arena, court Philippe-Chatrier, one man will be left short-changed.
