Despite Novak Djokovic’s recent loss in the semifinal of the 2024 Australian Open, it is now confirmed that he will definitely stay the World No. 1 on the ATP rankings at least until April 1, 2024. This is precisely because Carlos Alcaraz, who is the current World No. 2, has recently suffered a lot of disappointing losses, because of which, he is in no way catching up with the Serb before April 1st.

With this revelation, it is now guaranteed that Novak Djokovic will have stayed at the top of the ATP rankings for a total of 418 weeks by then, which further extends his record. Rafael Nadal, who is his close rival in the list of most weeks as World No. 1, has 209 total weeks to his name, which means that Djokovic will double his numbers in just a few months and it is inevitable.

This record by Djokovic is almost unbelievable and fans are pretty unanimously sure that it will never be broken again. Even after April 1st, Djokovic is most likely to maintain his position as the No. 1 player in the world, though Alcaraz is currently suffering from poor form. Moreover, it is highly unlikely that someone like Daniil Medvedev or Jannik Sinner will catch up to the Serb anytime soon.

Djokovic currently has 9,855 official points, while Alcaraz has 9,105 and Jannik Sinner has 8270 points. A positive performance in the Indian Wells and the Miami Open might possibly help Jannik Sinner overtake Alcaraz to become the second-ranked player in the world, following which he might then compete with the Serb for the top spot. He recently won the ATP Rotterdam after lifting his first-ever Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open 2024.

Novak Djokovic is finally making his return to Indian Wells

Djokovic will finally take part in the Indian Wells in 2024 after five long years. He last took part in the tournament in 2019, when he lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber in the round of 32. He was not able to take part in the tournament after that, as the United States of America required non-citizen visitors to be vaccinated until last year and the Serb was against compulsory vaccination and did not get vaccinated.

Nole has a sensational record in the tournament, having won it in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016. However, it has been over eight years since he last won the Indian Wells trophy and he will hope to win it this year on his return.

It will also help him redeem himself after a tragic loss against Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the 2024 Australian Open, which, by the way, was the Serb’s first-ever loss in the semifinal of the Happy Slam.
