Novak Djokovic has unequivocally presented ludicrous showdowns and performances during his time on the ATP Tour. Despite countering some hurdles along the journey, the Serb has always managed to manifest what other professionals only dream of accomplishing.

However, most recently, Nole spoke about a player’s inner battles while dealing with a high-pressure match. The 36-year-old opened up about his experiences and bashed critics who believe athletes should contain their emotions rather than embrace their true selves.

While talking in an exclusive interview with CBS on their “60 Minutes Interview,” the Serb reserved a few words for mental strength. Nole addressed a player’s emotional state when they go out of their way to achieve something worthwhile for themselves.

Novak Djokovic also highlighted how he expects players to level with themselves in times of crisis. He further condemned critics who denounce an athlete’s negative side when things go sideways and spoke about how embracing one’s emotions defines a champion in the long run.

I don't like this kind of mindset that I see a lot in sports: just think positive, be optimistic, there is no room for failure & doubts... You are a human being. [What makes] the biggest champions is the ability to not stay in those emotions for too long," Novak Djokovic told Jon Wertheim in 60 Minutes on CBS News.

The Serb has been commanding the men’s tour for the better part of two decades, having bagged the most major titles (24) in the sport’s history. However, World No. 1 has also witnessed an immense increase in competition from the younger generation, who aim to mark their spot in the game.

During an exclusive interview on 60 Minutes with CBS, Djokovic addressed the increased competitiveness of the rising stars. He stated that he respected their talent, and that alone motivates him to awaken his inner beast and strive for better.

I don’t know if that sounds good, to be honest. I think the young guys who are very hungry and very inspired to play their best tennis against me is an additional motivation. I think they kind of awaken a beast in me.
Djokovic told Jon Wertheim in 60 Minutes on CBS News.

The 36-year-old will now perform next during his hardcourt Australian campaign, starting with the Brisbane International warm-up event for the season’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
