US Open 2023 Champion Novak Djokovic admitted that it was his faith in ‘God’ which helped him through the physically challenging second set of the US Open final against Daniil Medvedev. He explained what it actually felt like to have that ‘Divine intervention’.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion revealed that at some moments, he completely lost his strength. “I no longer feel my legs. I don’t feel the ground, the ground under my feet is spinning. In those moments with the faith that I have, I hope that the divine intervention will happen, “ he said. He spoke out regarding his faith and said that there were times during matches when he could feel all his strength vanishing. It was in times like these when the World No.1 put his belief in God and hope that He would help. He also added that there was no way he could have endured all that he had without some kind of divine influence.
Djokovic also said, “If you believe that God and a higher power will help you, and I strongly believe in that and take it seriously. I think that the divine was present today.”
He revealed that in moments such as these, he just lets his intuition take over. He also said that after a point of time, the ball starts to blur. The 36-year-old admitted that it was hard for someone to understand if they had not been in his shoes. He said he went to a point of extreme patience in arguably the most challenging set of his life.
Nevertheless, the night belonged to Novak at Flushing Meadows. Be it divine interference or hard-earned experience, it was ultimately Novak Djokovic who emerged the winner. The Serb begins rewriting history books once again as he continues to play the best tennis he possibly can.
Novak Djokovic talks about his future in the sport

The Serbian Great has revealed that there have been moments when he has questioned his future in the sport. He admitted that he has quite often wondered why he was still doing it after all that he has achieved.
But he also said that knowing that he can still play at the biggest tournaments plays an important role in his decision. He added that he did not want to leave the sport if he was still at the top of his game and the rankings.
Though the Serb is 36 years old, he is still challenging the next generation of players. He is still one of their toughest opponents. In the US Open 2023, he comfortably defeated Ben Shelton, who is just 20 years old. The final match in itself is proof of the agelessness of the Serb, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev, who is ten years younger than him.
