24-time Grand Slam title winner Novak Djokovic has come down to what is now the most emotional aspect of his career. With nothing more left to win for the great Serb, Novak would just hope to keep himself motivated enough to keep going for one more year or two.
There have been a lot of talks recently about his legacy and whether he will continue to deliver on the big stage, considering there is very little motivation to keep himself going.
In an interview with Eurosport, Djokovic focused on what is now the dismal end of his career. He talked about how every single Grand Slam tournament now is going to take him one step closer to his retirement. He said:
I don't know how it looks, but I know how it feels. You've really got to earn. I feel like a cat sometimes, with nine lives. Every time I play a Grand Slam, I lose one life.
He further talked about how much his country fans want him to go for more Grand Slam titles and push for the 30 mark. Despite his ability to make every win look like a cakewalk every time he steps on the tennis court, he knows that it is not going to be that easy. He further concluded:
I'm happy with 24 but people in my country they say why not go for 25, 30. I say if it was that easy, it would be great.
Novak Djokovic’s hunt for Olympic gold medal continues
After stacking up a total of 96 career titles, including 24 Grand Slam titles, Novak has nothing left to prove to the outside world. However, interestingly, there is still a missing piece in the gallery of accolades, and that is the Olympic gold medal. He came very close to winning it way back in 2012 but finished in third place, winning the bronze medal.
Djokovic has talked about winning a gold medal before the end of his career a lot of times, and he will be at it again when he participates in the upcoming Olympics held in Paris the following year. Novak knows that this is the last opportunity for him to reclaim himself as the greatest ever by getting his hands across the piece of gold next year.
