World No. 2 Novak Djokovic was on the hunt for his 24th Grand Slam title for quite some time, and it finally came after a fantastic performance against Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2023 US Open last night. On a night when a lot of emotions came down on the Serbian, he laid down the names of people who had helped him become successful in life.

At the post-match press conference, Novak Djokovic talked about NBA legend LeBron James and NFL legend Tom Brady as the stars who have helped him remain consistent in tennis, thereby achieving perfection. After laying his hands on the US Open for the fourth time in his career and having managed to knock off three Slams from the possible four this year even at the age of 36, he considers himself not the only perfectionist in the world at the moment.

Novak further talked about how much LeBron and Brady have achieved in their respective sports, saying, “Maybe you can call me a perfectionist. I know I’m not the only one. There’s a lot of great champions in different sports that thrive on this kind of approach to perfect themselves.. that’s why LeBron James still keeps going at his age, or Tom Brady. Greats like that.”

It’s no secret that Novak Djokovic is in love with players who have worked hard on the way to the top and love sharing the spotlight alongside themselves as well. Novak has been catching up with stars from different sports, trying to learn from them about longevity, consistency, mental strength, and many other attributes that can help him in the long run.

On Sunday, after his US Open win, he changed his tennis shirt, pulling out a custom-made Kobe Bryant shirt that had the Lakers’ star jersey number on the back. It was also an indication of his 24th Grand Slam title; in the front was a picture of him alongside Kobe, and Novak took the moment to pay tribute to the star who lost his life in a plane crash a few years ago.
