Coco Gauff is making the right noise as the American cruises into the third round of the 2023 US Open. Gauff took down Russian teen Mirra Andreeva in straight sets in her second-round match. The 19-year-old has been in good form lately and this has prompted Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic to predict that a Grand Slam is around the corner for the American.
Djokovic feels while Gauff had the potential from the start, having a seasoned coach like Brad Gilbert has only bettered her chances of winning a Grand Slam. It is worth mentioning that Coco Gauff was struggling at the start of the season this year. However, on boarding Gilbert as her coach had turned things around for the American.
Gauff recently won her maiden WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati. The 19-year-old has started perfectly in her home slam and is among the title favorites. Djokovic too feels that Gauff can win a Grand Slam anytime now.
“And Coco is on the rise. I think, you know, she’s yet to win a Grand Slam, but played in the finals. She’s still young, but now Brad Gilbert on her side with the great experience of coaching some of the greats, I think things are coming together for her,” said Djokovic. The Serbian legend who himself is known for his supreme fitness lauded the teen saying she has cracked the women’s game quite early.

Further talking about Coco Gauff’s chances at the US Open, Novak Djokovic explained how she is close to reaching the level of what is deemed a complete player. The Serbian said that Gauff is really close to that stage and hence can be counted among the names who can lift the title at the Flushing Meadows.
The 36-year-old pointed out that the home support will only benefit Gauff. “I think she’s coming very close to that stage and that level. So I’m sure that she has very high hopes for the US Open and she should because she’s playing really well,” Djokovic added.
After knocking out Mirra Andreeva, Coco Gauff will now meet Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens in her third-round match. The American dominates the head-to-head record 2-0 between the two players.
